GPR39 is an Orphan-A GPCR with an unknown ligand. GPR39 is related to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, which is a receptor for ghrelin. At least three mRNA variants of GPR39 have been reported. GPR39 expression has been documented in human brain and peripheral tissues. ESTs have been isolated from human tissue libraries, including normal eye, brain, heart/melanocyte/uterus and vessel, and cancerous brain, germ cell, kidney and ovary.
