Background: PCDHGC5 (protocadherin gamma-C5) is a 944 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein that contains six cadherin domains and exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms. As a potential calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein, PCDHGC5 may be involved in the establishment and maintenance of specific neuronal connections in the brain. The gene that encodes PCDHGC5 consists of approximately 23,739 bases and maps to human chromosome 5q31.3.
