- The monoclonal antibody 43 reacts with the hydrophilic backbone of free lipid A. This antibody only reacts with lipid A not covalent bound to LPS. LPS is chemically composed of a lipid part, lipid A, which is responsible for the endotoxic activities of LPS, and a heteropolysaccharide which generally consists of an oligosaccharide, termed the core region, and, in some bacterial families, of the so-called O chain, composed of repeating oligosaccharide units.
