T-cadherin is a 78 kDa, calcium-dependent, glycoprotein. While T-cadherin is a member of the cadherin family, it lacks their conserved cytoplasmic region, being instead anchored to the plasma membrane via glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage. It is expressed in the heart and CNS with the exception of the cerebellum and spinal cord. Cadherin 13 is classified as a cell-cell adhesion molecule, although it is likely that it's role is in signalling and not physical adhesion. It is involved in regulating low-density lipoprotein-initiated cell proliferation, keratinocyte proliferation, neural cell growth and may play a role in metabolic regulation. Cadherin 13 protects endothelial cells from oxidative stress-induced apoptosis and may contribute to progression of vascular disorders such as atherosclerosis, restenosis and tumour angiogenesis.Synonyms: CDH13, CDHH, Cadherin H, Cadherin T, H-Cadherin, Heart cadherin, P105, T-Cadherin, Truncated cadherin
