- Background: RILP-like protein 1, encoded for by the gene RILPL1, plays a role in the regulation of cell shape and polarity as well as cellular protein transport. RILPL1 is a neuroprotective protein - sequestering GAPDH in the cytosol thereby preventing the apoptotic function of GAPDH in the nucleus [taken from UniProtKB (Entry: Q5EBL4)].
