- Sujet
- Background: Flightless-1 is the human homolog of the drosophila flightless (fli1), a gene required for proper development of flight muscles and essential to embryonic development. It is a member of the gelsolin family of actin-binding proteins, and is highly conserved among vertebrates and invertebrates. The actin-remodeling activity of flightless-1 may have multiple roles in the cell. Studies in transgenic mice indicate a role in wound healing that may involve the regulation of cell migration and proliferation. Flightless-1 has also been found to be associated with complexes involved in transcriptional regulation. It associates with CARM1, a protein arginine methyltransferase, and may function as a nuclear receptor coactivator via this interaction. It has also been shown to associate with the BAF53a subunit of the SWI/SNF-like chromatin remodeling complexes.
