    Sujet
IFN-alpha, a multifunctional cytokine important in the innate immune system, has been proposed to play a major pathogenic role in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus in humans and mice. IFNA bound complement component receptor-2 (CR2) in the same affinity range as other CR2 ligands. Asokan et al. (2006) proposed that the roles of CR2 and IFNA in development of autoimmunity may be mechanistically linked to pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus. Interferon-alpha and -beta (IFN-alpha/beta) and the tumour suppressor p53 are essential for the induction of apoptosis in cancerous cells and in antiviral immune responses, respectively. The transcription of the p53 gene is induced by IFN-alpha/beta, accompanied by an increase in p53 protein level. IFN-alpha/beta signalling itself does not activate p53, rather, it contributes to boosting p53 responses to stress signals.
